All coasters are cut from milled hardwood slabs of various lengths that have aged for over 10 years. Did you know that for every 1 inch in thickness, the wood needs to dry for 1 year! Some of the coasters were cut from 4-5” thick hardwood – that’s a lot of years! Some of these wood types are extremely rare and have been naturally aged versus the kiln dried method. Enjoy!
Hickory – the hardest hardwood available in this day and age. 19 different kinds of hickory hardwoods in the world. Extremely dense, very hard and can be used in various ways including flooring, furniture and tool handles. Fun fact: hickory is in demand so much that all hickory trees (at least in VA) are flagged to a specific company. So, if one falls or it's cut down, it needs to go to the company that bought it! Slabs are cut and milled from tree sizes that range from 60-120 feet tall
Spruce – around 35 species of spruce around the world. Standard material used in making many musical instruments including guitars, violins, and cellos. It’s also the most important wood for paper use! This wood type has so many varieties of colors including yellow, silvery blue and white. Some even have a fungus that’s been imbedded into the grain! Slabs are cut and milled from tree sizes that range from 60-200 feet tall!
White Oak – Very strong, durable and rot resistant. Used in the past as materials for boatbuilding. Also used for shelving, flooring, and cabinetry. Slabs are cut and milled from tree sizes that range from 65-85 feet tall. Light brownish color, this hardwood is truly beautiful.
Red Oak – Very ubiquitous site in many homes. The most replicated hardwood out – vinyl and other fake wood is made to match its stunning features. Commonly used for cabinetry, flooring, and furniture. Medium brown color and rot resistant. Slabs are cut and milled from tree sizes that range from 80-115 feet tall
